Arcade Fire to perform at newly revamped Edinburgh Castle Arena
The Grammy-award winning artists will unveil the refurbished £16 million concert arena at Edinburgh Castle this summer.
The Canadian artists will be the first band to perform at the castle’s concert arena which was recently revamped to include seating arrangements for 8600 viewers with more leg room, refurbished toilets, catering and merchandising.
The Edinburgh Military Tattoo, who is responsible for the concert arena upgrades, was the last to perform before the concert was taken apart for complete over hauling. The summer concerts in the castle usually take place in July but this year they have been postponed to September 1st onwards.
Three bands are expected to be booked by the arena organizers, Regular Music, to play at the Castle. Arcade Fire is one of them and the other two bands have yet to be selected. Tickets for the concert have gone on sale from 11th February, 2011. The bowl – shaped arena will also play host to regulars like the Tattoo and will also play host to festivals and sporting events. Arcade Fire tickets for all upcoming events are available on Big Ticket Shop.
A music source revealed: “Arcade Fire will be the first band to play in the new performance area at Edinburgh Castle. They are a hugely popular and influential band, so it is fitting they will be the first to put on a concert using the new Edinburgh Castle facilities.”
Arcade Fire, consisting of husband and wife duo Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, along with Will Butler, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury, Jeremy Gara and Sarah Neufeld, has previously performed at Edinburgh at Princes Street Gardens in August 2005 accompanying the successful group Franz Ferdinand. The band member play a variety of musical instruments which include guitar, drums, bass guitar, piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, xylophone, glockenspiel, keyboard, French horn, accordion, harp, mandolin and hurdy-gurdy.
The band which swept the Grammy Awards this year is all set to perform a one-off show in London’s Hyde Park in June.
